François Carrier
François Carrier was born in 1975 in Levis, a small town in southern Quebec. For the past eleven years, he has worked and lived in the same hometown. In 2001, Carrier received a university degree at Laval University for fine arts.
François Carrier is inspired by the constructivist painters from the beginning of the 20th century, for their geometric construction of space. He is also inspired by artists like Antony Tapies for his textural research.
Carrier believes that his works can be appreciated through a multidisciplinary perspective that exists somewhere between painting and sculpture. He seeks to illustrate a tangible representation of the passage of time. Symbols and signs that relate directly to science, art and philosophy are used throughout his works.
François Carrier has produced two separate series’ of paintings. The Impressions Series, in which he begins by tracing figurative elements into the plaster and then applies colour onto these textures. In doing this he conceals the elements with the applications of colour. The Interancisa Series deals with the use of open space. The paintings seem to be cut into segments with logical repetitions in the works. |
