Rock Therrien
Born in 1970, in Bellechasse, he now resides in Montreal.
Therrien was attracted to art at a very young age. So much so that in primary school he won many art contests. Self-taught, for the past sixteen years this young artist has been exploring various art venues. Therrien tends to create mostly larger sized paintings in which he brings forward people of very "rounded dispositions". He recreates amusing situations where one can easily recognize oneself.
In his creating process, Therrien conceives a situation that he will sketch on his canvas beforehand. Afterwards, he works his textures and colours in a fashion that is very much his own. The characters of Therrien evolve in another era. Therefore, to reinforce the past, he will create a "used" look by sanding his paintings, which are already very textured. Being a true admirer of curves, Therrien will engrave circular motifs that he will ornate with signs and touches of abstract colours. Each canvas beholds an impressive number of layers of various mediums. Therrien likes to leave traces of his different layering technique, enabling the viewer to catch a glimpse of his tedious work.
Therrien' s paintings are conceived as messages one must unravel. His paintings tell an untold tale that the artist strongly desires the viewer to discover. Many hidden treasures may be found in a Therrien painting. As in real life, some will be quickly unmasked while others will take more time. Exactly what the artist seeks when he creates a painting.
